Let’s Grow Scouting Together!

Saturday, July 18 at 9:00 a.m. via Zoom

This training will bring together key ideas around planning, recruiting, and retention. We’ll spend time digging into best practices for recruiting youth and adult leaders, with real-world strategies you can put into action right away. We encourage every unit to have a representative attend—Unit Key 3 and Membership Coordinators would especially benefit.

Don’t Go Dark This Summer!

Summer is one of the best times to showcase everything Scouting has to offer. Now is the perfect time to grow your unit!

From June 10th through July 31st, any Pack, Troop, Crew, or Post in good standing that recruits 5 or more NEW Scouts or Explorers will have its $100 National Charter Fee (2027) covered by the Greater California Council.

To qualify, youth must:

Please note: Scouts receiving scholarships, Transfers, former Scouts rejoining, and adult registrations do not count toward the challenge.

This is more than a membership drive. It is an opportunity to introduce more young people to adventure, leadership, service, and lifelong friendships while strengthening Scouting across the Greater California Council.

Make Your Next School Night or Event Stand Out!

Whenever you have a community event or a membership drive happening, signage and flyers can be a big part of making the event successful. Follow this link where Scouting America is in partnership with Color Shock Printing for any supplies you might need.

Unit of Excellence

Unit of Excellence helps packs and troop with a scorecard of the quality of program offered in their unit. The scorecard rates: Membership size and recruiting, advancement, outdoor activity, and retention. Read the guidebook here to help your unit present a quality program.

Live Scan Forms

Effective immediately, all new adult registrations requiring Live Scan must submit two forms:
1. An updated Live Scan Request Form (replacing last year’s version)
2. A new Waiver Agreement Form

The second form must be completed and submitted to the council office before completing the Live Scan. This requirement applies only to new registrations going forward—current registered adults do not need to resubmit!

MEMBERSHIP MOMENT: Summer is a time for Friends, Family, and Fun!

One of the best ways to grow membership is by having a family fun day, and there couldn't be a better time than Summer to host them! Ask your current scouts, parents, and pack committee to come up with three names each to invite to an upcoming family fun day. Invite former scouts and unit alumni to participate in the day of fun. Youth want to belong to units with their friends -- new and old.

Asking a variety of leaders to host or run each family fun day is important so everyone can enjoy their summer and the responsibility doesn't fall on one person. Summertime allows for more flexibility when planning. These can be planned at any time of the day or week, inside or outside, with structured activities or casual drop-ins. Ask your Cub Scouts what activities they would like to do. Even Cub Scouts know what their friends will be interested in doing.
